In Perranzabuloe's old churchyard you can discover evidence of the area's mining past. There is a big monument commemorating an important man in a mine (and his family). Perhaps Wheal Frances was a tin mine and the plate on the memorial is made of tin. I don't know - I am neither a chemist nor a geologist. The plate is grey metal and it's not shiny. It could be lead, but I think lead is darker. It's not made of iron, I'm sure. This red cross, commemorating a girl, is rusty iron. It is unique amongst all the stones. There are copper mines in Cornwall as well. Here's a gravestone with letters of copper or bronze or brass. A bit more research and I found more information on Abel Paull in the 1871 census. He was a lead miner (like his son).
